During our Lamp Quarters Marikina food crawl, we first visit Chives Bistro & Market.

Lamp Quarters is one of the newest food hub opened at the famous Gil Fernando Avenue (a long strip in Marikina full of restaurants and food hubs). With the tag line, “Live. Love. Local”, the owners of Lamp Quarters want to create a venue and environment that gives opportunities for local, up and coming, talented entrepreneurs and starters to showcase their talents and craftmanship in the community.

Chives Bistro & Market is one of the restaurants in Lamp Quarters offers cuisines from Europe and Asia. They’ve incorporated French, Italian and Spanish cooking techniques with Asian elements to cater to the Filipino palate. Also, their restaurant works closely with the Helping One Person Everyday – H.O.P.E. Inc. – a socio-civic organization which helps the underprivileged children and the needy. A portion of the sales from different Chives products helps fund different outreach programs of H.O.P.E. Inc. Talk about a helping a person every time you dine in here sounds nice.

By the way, they opened their first branch in Antipolo City in January 2016 and quickly became one of the top restaurants in the area. Now, they opened their 2nd branch here in Lamp Quarters in Marikina.

Place is spacious and I like that they have a huge glass windows as one can dine and relax while having a nice view outside. It has a mix of vintage, classy and native décors.

Here’s what they we ate:

Complimentary Bread

-This tasty bread comes in olive oil, balsalmic vinegar and oregano. It was the perfect appetizer as the bread was soft and has a buttery taste. I personally love the dip along with it.

House Salad (Php195)
“Green ice lettuce topped with crispy dilis, roasted cashew, calamari, sliced apples, tomatoes, grilled kesong puti, cracked black pepper and oregano dressed in honey lemon vinaigrette”

-A huge fan of salad, I personally love their House Salad as the lettuce was fresh and crunchy. I like the combination of the salty, sweet and a bit sour flavor as it compliments very well. And yes, I can eat this all day!

Frutti di Mare (Php250)
“Shrimp, calamari, clams, mussels, linguine, Pomodoro, pesto”

-I like that the pasta was cooked to perfection while the taste was superb. Not a fan of red sauce pasta (since I don’t like tomatoes) but this one’s an exception. The amount of sauce was good and the taste of seafood would make one crave for more.

Pork Belly Crisp (Php295)
“Bagnet style Pork belly, seasoned vinegar, pickled vegetables”

-The pork belly was crispy and cooked well though I just noticed that the meat is a bit dry inside (I personally like a juicy one) and the dip or vinegar along with it compliment the taste very well. The red/brown rice also gives a different taste to the pork belly.

Overall, I LOVE all the dishes they served to us. And I was surprised that the place may look expensive but the price is AFFORDABLE. They still have lots of other dishes to I want to try so will definitely come back here.

Chives Bistro Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Last October 2, 2017, I attended the Zomato Food Crawl at the newly opened Lamp Quarters in Marikina. Also, it’s been a while since I last attended a Zomato Food Crawl so I’m so excited to share my experience today. Will also be sharing a separate review of each restaurant we visited so please watch out for that.

What differentiate this place among the rest, the place comprises of 7 different restaurants with wide range of cuisines that compliments each other well. They have an open-air area, garden courtyard with lighted trees and lamps that promotes a quaint, romantic and relaxing ambiance. It’s a fun filled family oriented and pet friendly place that sets apart from the loud and noisy bustle of night life and hard bars.

First stop, we visited the Chives Bistro & Market which offers whirlwind flavors from Europe and Asia. In 2016, they first opened their doors in Antipolo and opened their 2nd restaurant here in Lamp Quarters Marikina.

2nd stop, we went to Silyo Dmiela Pampanga Cuisine which offers variety of traditional Kapampangan reciped, from pica pica to ulam, all prepared to impress and make your dining experience memorable.

3rd stop, at Ahlee’s which offers freshes, grilled and tasty dishes. They first opened their doors in Novemeber 2015 at Maginhawa in Quezon City and the second one here at Lamp Quarters.

4th stop, at Bubba Lab which is close to my heart since I discovered their very first branch in C&B Mall (near my alma mater, St. Scho) in Marikina Heights, Marikina City.

5th stop, at Mehana by Yordanovi which specializes on Bulgarian dishes.

And last but not the least, we also went to Wingfather Wings & Booze which offers crafted drinks, delectable food and well curated music.

Here's what the place looks like at NIGHT.

By the way, I’ll be making a separate post of each restaurants after this blog post. Also, I wanna thank Zomato PH for the invite and opportunity to showcase these restaurants in my hometown, Marikina.

A month ago, I went back at the famous Lilac St. in Marikina for a dinner. Looking for a place to eat, I came across Gokinjo which is Japanese restaurant in Marikina, famous for their unlimited and affordable ramen. Craving for ramen that time, we decided to try out their famous ramen.

It is located at Rainbow St. near Lilac St. Marikina. Interiors are well decorated with Japanese decors. Place is spacious as there are indoor and outdoor seating.

Menu below:

Here’s what we ordered:

Shoyu Ramen (Regular – Php150)
“Soy, braised pork, ajitama, ramen noodles”

-         Honestly, I was a bit disappointed since the broth tastes so bland that I had to add spices and soy just to add a flavor. Personally, the noodles were a little hard and seems like it doesn’t match the ramen. Serving size was okay though I think they must improve the taste.

Tantanmen (Regular – Php160)
“Sesame paste, sautéed pork, chili, ajitama, ramen noodles”

-          Same as the Shoyu Ramen, the broth was a little bland but tastes a bit better.

Gyoza (5pcs – Php110)

-          The 5 pieces gyoza seems a bit smaller than what we expected but no worries since the gyoza was good and cooked well. Price was okay for me.

Though I already read mixed review about their restaurant and their photos and promotion on Facebook seems so appealing, I really felt disappointed with the tastes of the ramen served. Photos were very appetizing but the taste of the ramen was bland for us. No problem with the serving size, the place and even their friendly staffs but I think they should improve on the quality instead of quantity of the ramen they served. 😊
